Coworking in Chiang Mai That Is Open Late

If your clients are in Europe or the US, the Chiang Mai working day is upside down. A 9am call in London is 3pm here. A 10am call in New York is 10pm. Most coworking spaces have gone dark by then.

Here is what is actually open late in Chiang Mai, and the catch that the listings do not mention.

The catch with "24/7"

Several Chiang Mai coworking spaces advertise 24/7 access, including Punspace, Yellow, Alt_ChiangMai and Hub53. That is true, and it is genuinely useful, but almost always members only. You need a monthly plan, and often a keycard and a deposit.

If you are in Chiang Mai for two weeks, or you work late occasionally rather than always, 24/7 access on a plan you are not buying is not a benefit.

RealSpace is open until midnight, every day, and you do not need a membership. Walk in on a 300 THB day pass at 6pm and work until midnight. That is the useful distinction, and it is the one that matters if you are not here for a year.

Working the European day from Chiang Mai

Thailand is UTC+7. The practical version:

• London, 6 hours behind. Their 9am is your 3pm. Their whole morning is your afternoon and evening.
• Berlin and Paris, 5 hours behind. Their 9am is your 2pm.
• New York, 11 hours behind. Their 9am is your 8pm. Their afternoon is the middle of your night.
• California, 14 hours behind. Their 9am is your 11pm.

So if you work with Europe you need somewhere open until at least 10pm. If you work with the US east coast, you need until midnight, and you will be doing your own focused work in the mornings.

"The soundproof booths are often available, and since the coworking closes at midnight, working with clients in other time zones is no problem."

What you need after 8pm, specifically

Late working has different requirements from daytime working, and most spaces are not set up for it.

A booth that is free. Evening is when the calls happen. If the booths are all taken during the day and the space empties at 6pm, evening is actually the best time to get one.

Light that does not wreck your sleep. Overhead fluorescents at 11pm will keep you up until 3am. Warmer, lower light in the evening is worth more than people think.

Food and coffee that still exist. A lot of spaces shut the cafe at 5pm and you are left with a vending machine.

Somebody else still there. Working alone in an empty office at 11pm is grim. Part of why late working is bearable at all is that other people are doing it too.

A safe way home. Chang Phueak is quiet at midnight and a Grab takes a few minutes.

Being honest about the trade-off

Working European or American hours from Thailand sounds romantic and is genuinely hard. You will miss dinners. Your friends here will be starting their evening as you start your afternoon block. The people who sustain it tend to do focused work in the morning, take a real break in the afternoon heat, and treat the evening as calls rather than deep work.

Choosing a space that is properly alive in the evening, rather than one you are technically allowed to be in, makes more difference to that than anything else.
